In the Footsteps of the Guanches – The History of Gran Canaria
Discover the fascinating history of the Guanches, the first inhabitants of the Canary Islands. On this full-day tour you'll visit places where their daily life unfolded for centuries. You'll see impressive dwelling caves, archaeological sites and spectacular landscapes that still hold traces of this ancient civilisation.
It's the perfect choice for anyone who wants to discover a less touristy side of Gran Canaria and explore its history from a completely different perspective.
Caves in Temisas
We'll begin the tour with a visit to impressive rock formations that once were home to the Guanches. From here there's also a beautiful view over the picturesque village of Temisas and the surrounding mountains.
Barranco de Guayadeque
Next, we'll head to one of Gran Canaria's most spectacular ravines. Barranco de Guayadeque is famous for its numerous caves carved into the rock, which for centuries served as homes, storerooms and places of worship. Today, some of them have been turned into unique restaurants and small museums.
Cuatro Puertas
We'll visit one of the island's most important archaeological sites. The Cuatro Puertas complex consists of caves and passages carved into volcanic rock, and its history goes back to the pre-Hispanic inhabitants of Gran Canaria.
Playa del Burrero
To end the tour, we'll visit the quiet Burrero beach, where history meets the beauty of a natural coastline. This lesser-known spot lets you relax away from the tourist crowds and admire the raw scenery of the Atlantic.
